Payrolled employment is at a record high

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 15 March 2024 09:39

Payrolled employment is at a record high, official data showed this week. The figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that almost 33.2 million people are in work. This is an increase of over 4.1 million since 2010.

One of my priorities for constituents in Norwich North is ensuring that people in Norwich have the jobs they need. That’s why I welcome these figures, because locally this gives more people in Norwich the security of a job. Meanwhile the Government continues to focus on growing the economy, driving down inflation and delivering more of the jobs hardworking families need.

In Norwich North, figures published also show that in February there were just under two thousand people claiming unemployment benefits, which was 3.4% of the population aged 16-64. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 3.8%.  This shows that people in Norwich are less likely to be unemployed than the national average across the whole country.

I hope you find this information helpful. The government is committed to jobs, and so am I for us in Norwich. That’s why I founded Norwich for Jobs, which is now going even further as Norfolk for Jobs to help people join the workforce and make use of everyone’s talents.
