Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, will be joined by her Norfolk colleagues at a meeting with Ofsted, the education regulator, on Wednesday 11th September.

The meeting, which will seek to secure a strong regulatory input in achieving sustained improvements to the county’s schools, comes as local council representatives are meeting with Schools Minister David Laws MP to discuss the recent controversies in Norfolk’s Children’s Services.

Chloe will seek to maintain the focus on education standards in Norfolk to ensure the best possible outcomes for children across the county.

Chloe Smith MP comments:

"I have arranged for Norfolk MPs to meet Ofsted because it is crucial to keep up the focus on the standard of the education that Norfolk children get. This is important to our constituents and it is the sensible next step to ensure that there is clear, objective and consistent help from inspectors after recent controversy in the Norfolk educational establishment. We spoke up about the official leadership at County Hall because it is so important to Norfolk children to get this right."

Richard Bacon MP said:

“As Ofsted have made clear, children in Norfolk have been too often let down.

“I therefore welcome the news that council representatives are meeting with David Laws to assess the authority’s improvement plan.

“Central government is right to hold the council to account and ensure Norfolk families are getting the right education for their children.”

Elizabeth Truss MP said:

“I am keen to see Children’s Services working with the DFE and Ofsted to ensure the very best possible result for Norfolk’s young people. Parents and pupils in South West Norfolk want to know that a first class education is available and I plan to ensure this is delivered.”

George Freeman MP comments:

"For too long Norfolk has been allowed to lag behind in school standards, despite the best efforts of many great teachers.  For our youngsters to get the best chance in life, and for our future prosperity,  Education services in Norfolk need to be seriously improved and modernised.  In recent years we have secured some key investment in broadband, rail, business and infrastructure funding.  To attract the investment here in Norfolk and build a long term economic recovery we need to radically improve both academic and vocational training.”

Brandon Lewis MP comments:

“I am looking forward to meeting Mr Harford to discuss education in Great Yarmouth and across Norfolk, specifically this year’s exam results and Children’s Services.  If any of my constituents have any points they would like me to raise, they should contact office@brandonlewis.co.”

Norman Lamb MP said:

"Every child deserves a fair start in life - a crucial part if which is receiving a good education.  Norfolk has some really good schools, but our county's education system has been failing too many children for too long. I am glad that the culture if complacency at County Hall is finally being challenged. I want Norfolk to set an ambition to be one of the best counties for school performance within the next 10 years."

Simon Wright MP comments:

“We must have confidence that Norfolk’s schools are being sufficiently challenged to help all children reach their full potential. Norfolk County Council has recognised that it needs to strengthen its approach to school improvement, and I hope that the meeting with David Laws will help to cement their strategy.”
