Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, has welcomed the announcement that a memorial will be erected outside Parliament to permanently commemorate the six million Jews and other victims of the Holocaust. The announcement comes as two weeks of remembrance to mark Holocaust Memorial Day draws to a close.

Situated in Victoria Tower Gardens, the planned memorial will also include a world class education centre, ensuring that the memory of what happened in Europe during the Second World War is not forgotten.

Commenting on the announcement Chloe said:

“Having visited Auschwitz in the past, I welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement of a permanent memorial and was proud to sign the book of remembrance. To ensure we continue to live in a peaceful and tolerant society we must never forget the crimes which were committed under the darkest days of humanity.”
