Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, is bringing Health Minister Dr Dan Poulter MP to visit the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital and the Norwich Walk In Centre.

This visit is re-scheduled from November 2014.

Dr Poulter will visit sections of the hospital, meet staff and patients, and go on to meet staff and patients at the WIC.

The Health Secretary has recently praised the NNUH which he said had “made some good progress”.

Chloe, who has spoken in Parliament repeatedly recently to support Norwich’s NHS while Monitor examines the hospital, and to secure a future for the Walk In Centre while it has moved location, says:

“There is unprecedented demand on the NHS. I’m bringing the Hospitals Minister to come to see the NHS in Norwich for himself, to support patients and professionals, and help find a way through the pressure.

“I’ve worked hard behind the scenes to help keep the Walk In Centre central in the city, and spoken recently in Parliament about Norwich’s needs this winter.

“I want the Hospitals Minister to hear what we need in Norwich.”

Chloe has also welcomed winter pressures funding for the hospital, and extra staff:

“The government has made a record £700 million available, and planned earlier than ever, to help ease pressures this winter. £6m for Norwich is welcome and I want it to be used wisely to include both health and links to social care.

“This means we can afford to have almost 1,200 more A&E doctors including 400 more A&E consultants than in 2010. At the N&N there are now 340 more clinical staff than four years ago.

“I want Norwich people to be sure that whenever they need help – however serious, day or night – the NHS will be there for them. The NHS in Norwich should have support from all of us, based on a strong economy.”
