Chloe Smith welcomes improvements at St Mary's House Assessment Centre

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 10 December 2015 17:02

St Mary's House in Norwich now has two new assessment rooms on the ground floor for DWP claimants. The improvements come after a long local campaign supported by Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, who has been actively lobbying Ministers to make better access available to disabled people, who have otherwise had to travel to Ipswich or endure alternative arrangements.

Chloe has worked on the issue with nearby MPs Richard Bacon and Keith Simpson and former MP Simon Wright since the last Parliament, and the announcement came in a letter from DWP Minister Priti Patel to Chloe Smith, dated 4th December 2015.

Commenting on the news Chloe said:

"This is good news after a too-long battle and will help many people in Norwich. It responds to the effort of local campaigners and local MPs have been able to help get things done by arguing for constituents' needs with ministers.

"If there had been an emergency then patients with mobility problems could have faced major difficulties evacuating from the second floor, so the new ground floor facilities are most welcome."

The new assessment rooms add to the existing seven on the second floor. Full supporting facilities mean that patients with impaired mobility are now able to be assessed on the ground floor.
