Chloe Smith to speak out for better mental health care

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 10 December 2015 10:00

Chloe Smith MP will speak in the Commons for better mental health care in Norwich on Wednesday, 9th December during a half-day debate on mental health services.

Chloe regularly helps constituents locally get the care they need and runs a series of meetings in Westminster between Norfolk MPs and the Norfolk and Suffolk Mental Health Foundation Trust, which is in special measures – the next in the series being Tuesday, 15th December.

She strongly supports the Eastern Daily Press’s ‘Mental Health Watch’ campaign for better services locally, and she has campaigned in Parliament for parity of esteem between mental and physical health.

Chloe says:

“For too long mental health was not given the same priority as physical health which is why I want to see parity of esteem between mental and physical health.

“I work hard for many of my constituents who suffer with or care for someone suffering with mental health illness and know first-hand the difficulties many have experienced with local mental health services.

“I welcome the steps this Government is taking to increase investment in mental health services but there is a long way to go and more to be done to improve service locally.

“Improving the way we treat mental ill-health is crucial.  The Eastern Daily Press’s campaign is powerful and I will continue to raise the key issues in Parliament.”
