Chloe Smith MP: Schools boost good news for Norwich

Today, schools across England have been told how much additional funding they will receive next year as part of government's multi-billion pound investment in primary and secondary education.

Norfolk receives a 3.82% boost.

Every secondary school will be able to receive a minimum of £5,000 per pupil next year, and every primary school will be able to receive a minimum of £4,000 from 2021-22. The biggest increases will go to the schools that need it most.

This follows the Prime Minister’s announcement in August that the budget for schools and high needs would be increased by a total of over £14 billion over three years, rising to £52.2 billion by 2022-23. Schools and local authorities will today find out how we are allocating the first part of that investment – £2.6 billion – for the coming year.

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, who returns from maternity leave in two weeks, says:

"This is good news for Norwich.  The per pupil funding boost next year will mean that every school in Norfolk gets a budget increase, meaning schools can plan and parents can expect better for their children.  It's sensible that it will most help the schools that need it the most.  Everyone in Norwich deserves the best start in life."
