MP for Norwich North, Chloe Smith, today called for Norfolk people to make their voice heard about transport in rural Norfolk.

Chloe is a member of the Transport Select Committee in Parliament, which is conducting an inquiry into transport for people in isolated communities.

As the only East Anglian MP on the Transport Select Committee, Chloe is keen to make sure the committee hears from constituents and Norfolk people about this important issue.   She urges Norfolk people to write to the Committee directly or contact her before Monday 13th January.

Local authorities are responsible for many of the relevant decisions.  Indeed, Chloe and all the other Norfolk MPs recently wrote to Norfolk County Council to urge them to reconsider proposals to hike the cost of student transport in the county.

Chloe comments:

“People who live in isolated communities and have no access to a car rely on public transport as their lifeline.  The elderly need reliable transport to do their food shopping, visit the doctor or simply see their families;  young people on the other hand need transport to get to their study or work.

“Norfolk needs reliable and affordable public transport.  It’s often a hard question of how to spend taxpayers’ limited money in the fairest way and so it’s important that the Committee looks at the facts.

“I want to make sure that Parliament hears from Norfolk about their experiences of rural transport.”
