Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, is meeting Chris Simkins, the director general of the Royal British Legion, today to further the local campaign to save the Legion’s Jubilee Hall, on Aylsham Road in her constituency.

  • She will present a petition of 617 signatures from Norwich supporters of the Royal British Legion, to Mr Simkins.  The petition calls on him “to retain Jubilee Hall on Aylsham Road, Norwich, for use by Norwich branch of the Royal British Legion and members and other users.”

  • She also calls on followers of the local campaign to show resounding support for the Poppy Appeal, which began last week.

Chloe comments:

“I support the Royal British Legion in Norwich and up and down this country.  I passionately want it to succeed, for those who the charity serves:  veterans of past campaigns, and those yet to fight, and those we remember as fallen.  I want HQ to listen and remember its local members and friends and save Jubilee Hall.

“The Legion must not leave its members behind.  It must not neglect the people who make it a great institution.  Now is the time to listen to its members and to its friends in the wider community.  If ‘its aim is to make the Legion more visible, more relevant and more accessible to those members of the Armed Forces Community who may require help, advice and support at any stage of their lives’ – then listen, and be visible in the Norwich community, and work constructively now with the local volunteers.  We are all behind the Legion and its wonderful volunteers – don’t waste this goodwill.

“It is also time to show resounding support for the Poppy Appeal and all its volunteers.  The Legion and its friends should be united at this time of year in support of those who need it most.”
