Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North on Friday 19th July 2013 joined students from Hellesdon High School in discussing work and plans for the future at workshop event.

The workshop event, run by Moco Moments, was designed to assist students in their preparation for the world of work; the students spent time looking at different sectors of industry, phone conversations with industrialists and business people and what businesses require from potential employees.

Chloe, a Trustee of the Academy, spent time with the pupils finding out about what careers they would like to go into when they finish school, these ranged from computer animation to Off shore engineering. Chloe spoke about her career path when she left school and spoke to the students about her ‘Norwich For Jobs’ Campaign which she launched in January with the aim of reducing youth unemployment in Norwich in two years.

Chloe commented about her visit: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the students at Hellesdon High during their workshop. Listening to the young people about their hopes and aspirations for the future was very inspiring and reminded me of why I launched and am working so hard on the ‘Norwich For Jobs’ Campaign as these young people are so eager to go out into the world and achieve and I am keen that they can find successful and rewarding jobs they deserve.”

Gerry Batty, Hellesdon High School Headmaster commented: “Chloe is very supportive of Hellesdon High which in November was rated as “good with outstanding features” by Ofsted, was the 117th most improved school in the country and is rated in the top 20% of schools by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust”
