Aylsham Road and Cromer Road bus lane update

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 04 May 2023 08:51

I’ve been working with local residents and businesses who have been concerned about the potential negative impact that the new bus lane on Aylsham Road and Cromer Road could have on people, trade and public safety.

We were promised that the County Council would review the scheme after it was put in.

In March, I wrote to the County Council to press for this review.

Responding to this letter, the Director of Highways, Transport & Waste, Grahame Bygrave, confirmed that a review of the scheme has been taking place to assess how residents and businesses have been affected by the scheme. This is welcoming news that provides residents and businesses an opportunity to express their thoughts on how they have been impacted by the new bus lane.

He says:

“I can confirm that assessment of the impacts of the Cromer Road / Aylsham Road has been taking place now that the transport network and its use has become established in the area. This review has looked at whether the scheme has delivered the planned bus journey time savings and predicted bus journey reliability improvements, as well as identifying the impact the scheme has had on bus operators, bus passengers, local residents and businesses, including the shops on Aylsham Road. A wide range of stakeholders were contacted as part of this review and asked to submit any evidence they could provide. This review is now being finalised and will shortly be signed off prior to circulation, which should be in May.”

It is crucial that local councils listen to residents and businesses, and I will continue to help constituents’ voices be heard. You can also contact your elected County Councillors at any time, such as Councillor Shelagh Gurney who has campaigned tirelessly for residents on this issue too.
