The Safer Streets Fund

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 18 September 2020 08:51

Following my recent meeting with Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), I wanted to follow up with information regarding the Safer Streets Fund.

The Safer Streets Fund aims to stop offences that blight communities and cause misery to victims from happening in the first place.

Following a bidding process, grants of up to £550,000 will be provided to PCCs in England and Wales for projects to improve security in areas particularly affected by acquisitive crimes such as burglary, vehicle theft and robbery.

The PCC for Norfolk has received a grant of £363,164, which will help with cutting crime on the streets of Norwich North. The money will go towards simple changes, for example; the design of streets such as locked gates around alleyways, increased street-lighting and the installation of CCTV.

The funding will also be used to train community wardens, deliver local crime prevention advice to residents and establish Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

The Home Secretary announced the Safer Streets Fund in October 2019, and PCCs were invited to bid for funding in January this year.

I am very pleased to hear that Norfolk has been successful in securing a grant from the Safer Streets Fund. This will go towards helping constituents of Norwich North feel safer on the streets and in their neighbourhoods, something I have made a priority as part of My Plan for Norwich North.

If I can help with any matter, please do email me on chloe@chloesmith.org.uk or ring my constituency office on 01603 414756.
