Refurbishment of the Elizabeth Fry wing at HMP Norwich

Tackling crime is one of my priorities as your Member of Parliament and I am committed to working locally to ensure north Norwich is safe for local residents. Making prison work, and rehabilitating convicts, is an important part of that.
I keep in close touch with Norwich Prison for that reason, and I am pleased that planning permission has been granted locally for the refurbishment of the Elizabeth Fry wing at HMP Norwich and new facilities that will help rehabilitate prisoners. These works will start in the Autumn and the refurbishment will begin in the Winter of 2023 and will include the provision of in-cell showers, new window openings to increase internal daylight and the introduction of an accessible platform lift between the ground and first floor to provide access to the multi-faith room in the annex wing of the Elizabeth Fry wing. I know that this investment will help support local businesses and support jobs in the construction industry. It is important that our streets are safe for all of us, with prisoners serving their sentences in decent conditions but learning their lesson, and an improved HMP Norwich will help achieve this.
