NHS dental provision

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 20 June 2023 11:05

I recognise that access to NHS dentists remains an issue for my constituents, a situation compounded by the pandemic and a shortage in dental workforce across the UK. The Government has taken a number of steps to encourage dentists to take on more NHS work and made it easier for overseas dentists to come and work in the UK.
To assist constituents, I routinely update the contact points and resources to help you find a dentist. Constituents are not tied to a geographical area for dental treatment and can access NHS treatment out of area if convenient such as near your place of work or study.

I remain committed to highlighting Norwich's dental issues to Parliament to try to secure as much help and support for constituents as possible, including supporting the development of a dental training facility in the region.

Dental emergency and out-of-hours care
If you think you need urgent care, contact your usual dentist as some surgeries offer emergency dental slots and will provide care if clinically necessary.
You can also contact NHS 111 by telephone or online, who can put you in touch with an urgent dental service.

The NHS website displays if practices are taking on new patients or accepting referrals.
It’s a requirement for dental practices to update their information on the search tool regularly, but if information is not available you should contact the practice directly.
