New protections to prevent children from accessing pornography

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 08 February 2022 12:28

Today the Government has announced new protections to prevent children from accessing pornography online which further strengthens the Online Safety Bill and makes the internet a safer place for children.

It is too easy for children to access pornography online and parents deserve peace of mind that their children are able to use the internet safely and appropriately.

That is why introducing new protections through the Online Safety Bill prevents children from accessing pornographic material – all pornography sites, social media providers, and video-sharing platforms will have a legal duty to verify that those accessing pornographic material are over 18 years old or face a fine of up to 10 per cent of global turnover.

This will ensure that children can only access websites appropriate to their age, protecting them from seeing things no child should see.
