New plans to protect people from anonymous trolls online

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 25 February 2022 13:53

Today the Government have announced new plans to protect people from anonymous trolls online, adding new measures to the Online Safety Bill and strengthening the law against anonymous online abuse.

Too many people currently experience online abuse, which is often fuelled by anonymity.

That is why the Government has listened to calls to strengthen the Online Safety Bill to ensure social media platforms clamp down on anonymous abuse online – putting more power in the hands of people using social media, and providing tools to tailor their experience, including blocking anonymous trolls and giving people more control over what they see on social media.

This will help tackle the issue at its root as we make the UK the safest place in the world to be online.
