National Tinnitus Week

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 07 February 2023 10:34

It’s National Tinnitus Week. Millions of people cope with this every day, and one of them is my dad. His deafness, including tinnitus and other conditions, inspired me to get the British Sign Language Act into law, and I hope that will help many Deaf and hard of hearing people for years to come by giving strong guidance on how to make services properly accessible.

I joined forces with Rosie Cooper, then Labour MP, to do that, and recently we gave an interview to Times Radio’s “Frenemies” show about working together across party lines to achieve important goals. You can listen here: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/radio/show/20230204-21287/2023-02-04

You can also see us talking during the passage of the legislation, in this fully signed and captioned coverage thanks to the BDA (our interview is around 24:30, but do check it all out!): https://bda.org.uk/live-from-westminster/

This Tinnitus Awareness Week, Tinnitus UK are calling for those working and living in noisy environments to say "when it’s loud – plug’em!"
