More progress secured for Britannia Road Residents

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 20 June 2023 09:20

I am delighted to report that positive change is on its way for residents in and around Britannia Road, in north Norwich, who have suffered anti-social behaviour from congregating drivers.

I’ve secured a pledge from the police and city council to implement a Public Spaces Protection Order before the school holidays, because I am keen to ensure that local families are spared from further episodes of dangerous driving and noisy night-time partying.

I have been leading on long-term solutions for residents of Britannia Road who have had their lives blighted by anti-social behaviour in and around the car park area.  I have successfully brought the local authorities and the police together to hold them to account for tough action that will solve residents’ woes.

The temporary car park closure which operated between January and April resulted in improvements for local residents, and once the car park closure order expired, I was keen to keep the pressure on to obtain a permanent fix for vehicle-related anti-social behaviours.

If approved by Norwich City Council's cabinet next month, the PSPO will ban anti-social behaviours across the city, including Britannia Road and the car park, and is expected to last for three years. There will be a fixed penalty notice for breaches which could lead to court action if unpaid.

I will continue to make local residents' voices heard when it comes to disruptive anti-social behaviours, and I sincerely hope that a PSPO will bring about long-awaited behaviour change not just on Britannia Road, but in other areas of the city affected by ASB.

Once the City Council cabinet have approved the order, they will publish the relevant details.
