Mental Health funding boost

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 26 January 2023 11:45

The Government has announced a £150 million investment into new mental health care facilities across England, which will see the development of 150 new urgent mental health care facilities offering care to adults and young people.

At a time when too often people are suffering with their mental health and forced to use A&E, I am delighted to see our community recognised with a welcome £1.7million funding boost.

Norfolk and Waveney are set to benefit from:

  • Improvements to crisis café access
  • Provision of laptops and tablets for use by service users at REST hubs (Norwich)
  • Improvements to NHS111 / crisis line infrastructure
  • Short-stay residential unit for children and young people in mental health crisis (Lowestoft)
  • Step down beds at Omnia (Norwich)
  • Step down beds at Oliver Court (Great Yarmouth)
  • Two minibuses to transport patients from an emergency department to wellbeing hubs / evening sanctuaries for appropriate support
  • Improvements to mental health facilities in the emergency department at James Paget Hospital (Great Yarmouth)

These dedicated facilities will ensure patients can get the help they need whilst freeing up staff availability in emergency departments at NNUH during these challenging winter months.
