Kilimanjaro - for the first time with complete spinal injury tetraplegia?

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 26 April 2024 12:42

Norwich graduate Max Levene is setting out to do something extraordinary and I want to share and celebrate it.

After breaking his neck aged 17, he aims to be the first person with complete spinal injury tetraplegia to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro. Read more and support his challenge in September here.

I know how tough Mt Kilimanjaro is - I tried it! I took on the trial for charity nearly twenty years ago with friends and colleagues. It’s a long-standing regret for me that I didn’t make it up the final section (unfinished business, even…). So I can take a guess at what Max and his team will face, but clearly the challenge they’ve set themselves will be profound in many more ways.

Max’s mission back home inspires me very much too. Take a look at his channel that sets out to help other disabled people with guidance and information, and spreads the word that people with disabilities can achieve great things

And I thank him and so many other dedicated public servants at DWP for all you do to support people.

Good luck Max - many will be watching you with excitement and admiration.
