Importance of Social Distancing

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 02 June 2020 16:16

Last Thursday, the Prime Minister gave a statement to the nation.

In this, he explained what the next steps would be on the road map to easing restrictions.

It is thanks to the caution of the British people shown so far that all five tests set out by the Prime Minister are being met. This is your achievement, which has only been made possible thanks to your steadfastness and perseverance to our national purpose to overcome this virus.

As the Prime Minister set out, schools will now reopen to more children. Closing schools has deprived children of their education and their friends, and as is often the case, it is the most disadvantaged pupils who have been at risk of being hit the hardest.

From today, we will start to see some shops opening. Furthermore, up to six people will be able to meet outside - provided those from different households still continue to strictly observe the social distancing rules by staying two metres apart.

It is important that to control the virus, everyone needs to stay alert, act appropriately, strictly observe social distancing rules, and remain two metres apart from those who are not part of your household.

Reducing contact with others is still the best way to prevent the spread of this virus. It is best to avoid seeing people from too many households in quick succession - so that we can avoid the risk of quick transmission from lots of different families and continue to control the virus.
