Grassroots football facilities across England to be regenerated through UK government investment

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 25 March 2022 12:10

Today the Government have announced extra investment for grassroots football facilities - so that more people can enjoy the benefits of coming together and playing sport.

Too many communities across the UK do not have access to the high standard of local sports facilities that they need and deserve.

That is why, in partnership with the FA and the Premier League, we are investing in upgrades to changing rooms, football pitches, and pavilions  – projects in every corner of the UK will receive funding to increase participation in sport, including for women and disabled players.

This extra funding includes £646,040 for Norfolk County Football Association in Norwich.

This project will convert a existing natural turf stadia pitch to a new full size floodlit Stadia 3G FTP as well as improving some of the existing infrastructure at the Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe, home of Norfolk FA.

The Centre has a wide range of users and partner clubs  and there is a close link with Norwich City Community Sports Foundation. It will continue to deliver and expand recreational, female and disability provision. An existing mental health playing opportunity would be expanded as well as the site becomes a central hub for disability football. Partnership funding of over £300,000 has been provided by Norfolk FA and the local Growth Board.

This investment will widen access to high quality facilities and increase participation in grassroots sport – improving physical and mental wellbeing and bringing our communities together.
