Chloe welcomes Norwich schools to Parliament

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 02 March 2016 09:32

"The Queen is not allowed in the House of Commons";  "The chamber is too small to squeeze everyone in";  "anyone can become an MP if you work hard for your community".  These were just some of things children from Norwich's George White Junior School discovered on their visit to Parliament.

Chloe Smith hosted the junior school from her constituency and, responding to questions from pupils, said:

“I got involved in politics because as a teenager growing up in Norfolk I was frustrated our bus service wasn’t good enough. At heart politics is about getting actively involved in solving problems, rather than complaining from the sidelines.  If you care about your community, and want to work with people to change things, any child at a Norfolk school today could become an MP!"

Chloe is encouraging all schools in Norwich North to take up the offer to visit Parliament, recently welcoming Heartsease Primary and St William’s Primary as well as high schools. Pupils receive a tour and workshop from the new Education Service, before getting the chance to meet their MP.  Children and teachers report that they have a great day.  Transport subsidies are often available for Norwich schools from the Education Service.
