Chloe Smith urges Norwich firms to check their cyber security

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 10 November 2015 14:28

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, today urged local firms to check up on their cyber security after reports that Norwich Airport's website has been hacked.

The Airport is in Chloe's constituency and she reacts as local MP and a former Minister for Cyber Security in the Cabinet Office (2012-13). She has spoken in Parliament this year about updating the relevant legislation against computer misuse, and authored a recent article responding to the cyber attack on TalkTalk.

Firms can use simple resources such as:

or

to take steps towards better cyber security.

Chloe comments:

"The daily security online of our citizens and our country is hugely important and computer misuse is a crime for a reason. Many people will have been worried by reports that Norwich Airport's website has been challenged, and airports are obviously national infrastructure that must maintain the highest standards of security.

"I am reassured that the Airport has taken swift action in this case.

"Looking more broadly, this shows that firms must act now to be sure that their security is enough to protect themselves and their customers, before it is challenged. Firms have got to be better safe than sorry. Simple advice is available for companies large and small to make sure they are keeping a step ahead of people who would do harm."
