Chloe Smith: No repeat of salt shortage in the snow, please

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, who suffered travel disruption like everyone as she moved between Norwich and Westminster, has today called for sufficient gritting in Norwich through the snow and cold snap.

Chloe Smith said:

"The Transport Secretary has given his assurances that there is enough salt stockpiled to last the UK through this cold weather. I am hopeful that locally in Norfolk we will have enough, and I want to see the city and nearby be properly gritted from that. Last year was the worst winter for 30 years and we saw Norfolk's salt supplies re-allocated to other areas which caused real problems in the county. We cannot allow forward thinking Local Authorities to suffer again.

When people suffer as they have done today and over the weekend in getting out and about, and the economic and social cost of winter weather disruption in England is around £1 billion, we don't want to see chaos over salt and grit supplies."
