Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North has today welcomed Norwich North’s latest employment figures showing a drop in those out of work compared to this time last year.

The Office of National Statistics figures released today have shown that unemployment has dropped to 847 people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in Norwich North compared to this time last year when the figures stood at 871. Figures also indicate that the numbers of young people aged 18-24 have remained static in comparison to this time last year at 215. Both sets of figures have seen a slight increase compared to this time last month, which reflects seasonal patterns of school and college leavers signing on to claim Jobseekers Allowance.

Chloe comments: “These figures are very encouraging, and show another month of record numbers of people in work and a near-record low of people who are unemployed.

“With the employment rate at a record high, the unemployment rate at its lowest level in over 10 years, and wages up whilst inflation has remained low, we are making sure that everyone can share in the country’s wealth.  I am not complacent and continue to press ahead with projects such as Norwich for Jobs to continue to help young people in particular into work”.
