Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North is supporting a campaign run by Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services aimed at highlighting and tackling Domestic Abuse.

The White Ribbon Window Campaign is being run in partnership with Norwich City Council and is being launched today. The White Ribbon is a symbol of unity in preventing and eliminating all forms of violence against women, including domestic abuse. Local artists have decorated wooden ribbons which will be on display in the windows of businesses and organisations around the city to coincide with the international day for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

Chloe said “I’m pleased to be supporting the White Ribbon Window Campaign, I want to back this campaign as I continue to do all I can to stamp out domestic abuse.”

Chloe is supporting the campaign in memory of her constituent, Kerri McAuley who was murdered by her partner, and to show her support to all of the victims of domestic violence.

Chloe has been working hard in Norwich and in Westminster to ensure that lessons were learned from the brutal murder of Kerri McAuley, by meeting with Ministers to raise the case ahead of the forthcoming Domestic Abuse Bill.

Chloe took one of the white ribbons designed by a Leeway Service User to Westminster to highlight the work taking place there to tackle Domestic Abuse.

The Leeway Service User who created the ribbon in the photograph is currently in a  Refuge. She has given a quote on what the ribbon represents:

“The white bridal look represents the ‘true love’ this is the one. Then the black roses represent the evil love that turns to violence and abuse. The white ribbon represents the recovery road from abuse and the sisterhood of refuge. I support white ribbon day because I have been a victim of domestic abuse and am living in refuge, whilst I recover and heal from my experiences. White ribbon day and the artwork we have done is an exciting way of raising the issue of domestic violence and abuse.”Leeway Service User
