Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, will on Thursday 12th March 2015 be hosting a mentoring event with Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD) for employers.

The event will highlight the fantastic work taking place locally via the Norwich for Jobs programme to help tackle youth employment and the new partnership with the CIPD’s ‘Steps Ahead Mentoring’ programme, which provides a practical and simple way for employers and HR professionals to use their skills to help young people access the labour market.

CIPD’s ‘Steps Ahead Mentoring’ programme provides a practical and simple way for employers and HR professionals to use their skills to help young people access the labour market.

Steps Ahead Mentoring is a free, face to face mentoring programme run by the CIPD, designed to mobilise our extensive membership network of HR professionals to help young jobseekers (18-24) in their job search. CIPD members draw on their unique expertise of recruitment processes and employability to help young people with their first step on the jobs ladder. The CIPD recently secured funding from the Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund supported by Nesta and the Cabinet Office, to help with the scale up of the programme and to turn Steps Ahead into a world class mentoring programme.

The Norwich For Jobs Project and ‘Steps Ahead Mentoring’ are joining forces to ensure that young jobseekers in Norwich are able to access the best possible advice and support from the city’s employers.

CIPD have invited Chloe, in her capacity as Founder and Chair of the Norwich For Jobs project, on behalf of the whole Steering Group to become a Champion for their Steps Ahead Mentoring programme.

Chloe comments: “We know that mentoring can make a real difference to young people and through Norwich For Jobs we saw there was appetite for trying it in Norwich.  Teaming up with CIPD allows qualified professional people to volunteer to help local jobseekers working and we’re confident it will give Norwich For Jobs continued momentum.”
