Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, today welcomes the Green Homes Grant voucher scheme and encourages constituents to apply for it.

In July the Chancellor announced a ‘green package’, as part of measures to help the economy recover from the pandemic.

From today, homeowners can sign up to the Government’s £2 billion Green Homes Grant, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of over 600,000 homes, whilst also creating greener jobs.

The grant will enable homeowners and landlords to apply for vouchers to make green home improvements including insulation of walls and floors, replacing single with double or triple glazing and low carbon heating like heat pumps or solar thermal. These measures could save households up to £600 a year on energy bills.

The grant will fund up to two-thirds of the cost of home improvements up to £5,000. Homeowners who are on low incomes will be eligible for a grant covering up to 100% of the cost up to £10,000.

This scheme will also create over 100,000 jobs across the UK.

Chloe has already been speaking to small businesses in the area who hope to supply the works.

Chloe comments: “I really welcome this greener homes funding package from the Government.  It is important to people to be able to improve their home and this means you can reduce bills, care for the environment and provide jobs all at the same time.  We need this at a time like this.  Protecting our environment and bringing more good jobs to Norwich are two of my key local priorities.  I would encourage constituents to consider applying from today, and local firms to sign up to supply the works.”

Chancellor Rishi Sunak added:

“We promised to support jobs and protect the environment – and the Green Homes Grant delivers on this. We’re giving homeowners, landlords and local authorities the funding they need to hire local tradespeople and make our homes more energy efficient. By supporting the green van men and women, we’ll save money, save jobs and save the planet.”
