Chloe creates 'Little Ben' in support Norwich Puppet Theatre’s 35th Anniversary Celebrity Puppet Auction

Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North has supported Norwich Puppet Theatre’s 35th Anniversary Celebrity Puppet Auction by designing her own puppet to be auctioned.

 

Chloe has created ‘Little Ben’, a puppet that is designed to represent both Norwich North and Westminster and how she represents Norwich North in both places. The puppet is Big Ben themed thanks shows Norwich’s links to Westminster, through the inclusion of Norwich North road names ‘Parliament Court’ in Dussindale and ‘Hansard Close’ in Mile Cross.

 

Hansard Close was named after Luke Hansard, who was born in Norwich and gave his name to Hansard, the record of Parliamentary debate, which he printed from 1774 until his death in 1828.

 

The puppets that have been created will be auctioned on 25th November and funds raised will go towards supporting the work of the Puppet Theatre and developing outreach projects in schools. Other celebrities that have designed puppets include Michael Rosen, Maureen Lipman, Tom Conti, Toya Wilcox, Colin Self, Jenny Eclair and Ella Goodwin.

 

Chloe commented: “I am thrilled to have been able to put my creative side into practice and support the Puppet Theatre in their fundraising auction. I wanted to create a puppet that represents my work both in Norwich and Westminster and the links that exist between both places.”
