Chloe comments on latest Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust CQC inspection

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 24 February 2023 13:06

Today the Care Quality Commission (CQC) announced improvements in the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) rating, which was previously rated inadequate, and is now rated as requires improvement.

I am pleased to see that the regulator is reporting improvements taking place at the NSFT - it has been a long time coming, and I welcome the progress that is being made.

However, as the CQC report illustrates, the long journey to recovery is only just beginning. I am encouraged by significant progress in child and adolescent mental health wards, and the NSFT must continue their focus on making further improvements to raise the overall standard of care in adult mental health.

There is clearly much more to do support people in crisis.

The Trust is continuing to get support from the national NHS to complete its improvement.

Whilst the improvements at NSFT are encouraging, I will continue to keep in very close contact with the Minister, the Integrated Care Board, NSFT and the CQC to help ensure that the improvement continues, and I will maintain my regular dialogue and meetings with the Chair of NSFT to seek updates on the action plan in respect of its services at Hellesdon Hospital and across the wider area.

People need access to good, safe and effective mental health care, and I will continue to stand up for constituents who must have the right standards of service. I want to see further progress being made on mental health services over the coming months.

I am grateful to staff for all the hard work and dedication they continue to give to improving mental health services.
