Norwich Western Link

The Norwich Western Link (NWL) is an opportunity to boost economic growth and jobs across the Norwich North and Broadland constituencies.

Having already helped to secure the investment that built the NDR, I support the NWL because it’s essential we eliminate the ‘rat-running’ that causes disruption for residents in the North West of the city and upgrade connectivity between Norfolk and the Eastern region to incentivise investment into the city.

Residents told me they continue to support the building of the NWL in the transport survey that was available to complete at the end of 2022. Several other issues were raised in the survey, and a summary blog piece can be found here. Norfolk County Council also conducted a survey that showed 77% of respondents support the building of the Western Link, alongside major businesses and local partners including the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), Norwich International Airport, Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Fire and Rescue.

In response to the Norwich transport survey and current challenges faced by the Western Link Road, Jerome Mayhew, MP for Broadland, has expressed his continued support and said: “The Greens – propped up by Labour and the Liberal Democrats - are continuing with their campaign to halt road building across Norfolk.  With a judicial review being undertaken into the plans to dual the A47, local opposition parties are working to try to derail our plans to bring investment and jobs into the County whilst reducing air pollution in residential areas and bringing down fuel emissions from congestion currently faced by local residents.  Alongside the Conservative-led administration at Norfolk County Council, we will continue to work to deliver this road for the benefit of residents across the county”.

I understand the concerns about the environmental impact that the Western Link may have in the Wensum Valley, although the connectivity opportunities that will link the East to the rest of the Country will help to unleash the Eastern region as an economic powerhouse.

The safety of local residents, job growth and continued local economic prosperity must come first, and the Norwich Western Link supports my mission to make sure Norwich North levels up with the rest of the UK.
