Launching Global Britain

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 05 February 2020 14:44

As promised, the Government have delivered on their key manifesto commitment to get Brexit done. Now the UK will take a new place on the world stage. On Monday (3rd February 2020), the Prime Minister has set out the Government’s approach to trade talks with our European friends and neighbours.

The Prime Minister delivered his keynote speech outlining the UK’s ambitions in these negotiations which you can find below.

You can see for yourself the optimism with which the Prime Minister speaks; opportunity, optimism and free trade is what this Government seeks to deliver.

It is clear that now the UK has left the EU, the UK will remain a close and integral partner to Europe. Indeed, the Prime Minister was unequivocal, stating; “we want a thriving trade and economic partnership with the EU”.

As well as looking to Europe, this once in a lifetime opportunity allows the UK to forge new and closer relationships with our allies in the Commonwealth.

I also want to take the time to reassure constituents, that leaving the EU will not lead to the lowering of important standards; be that in agriculture, environmental or social standards. On this, the Prime Minister was crystal clear.

In addition to his Greenwich Speech, the Foreign Secretary tabled a Parliamentary statement where he updated MPs on the Government’s specific objectives. I have also included a link to the Foreign Secretary’s statement below.

As the MP for Norwich North, I share the Prime Minister’s optimism about the future of our great country. I will be continuing my work in Parliament to support post-Brexit opportunities for jobs and local businesses here in Norwich.
