Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, is supporting White Ribbon Day 2009 and today joined local charity Leeway in their campaign to raise awareness of Domestic Violence Week.

The White Ribbon Campaign is the UK branch of the global campaign to ensure men take more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against women. Chloe met representatives of the campaign in Parliament today. For more information, see: http://www.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk

Leeway, Norfolk's leading charity specialising in domestic abuse against women and children, is marking Domestic Violence Week by holding a Big Cake Break (23rd Nov - 27th Nov), supported by Expresso Café on St George's Street, Norwich. The café is selling a special chocolate fudge cake and a percentage of the proceeds will go to Leeway.
Chloe was at the cafe on Thursday, enjoying some cake with Leeway's Chief Executive Mandy Proctor and Business & Central Services Manager Ali Hall.

Chloe commented:

"I am pleased to support local and national campaigns against domestic violence. Three million women experience violence each year through domestic violence, rape, trafficking and forced marriage. Children are often affected too. I applaud the work of Leeway in helping over 4,000 women every year in Norfolk.

"We need a coordinated approach to tackling violence against women. I strongly welcome Conservative plans announced by Theresa May MP to work with schools, police, health care professionals and the voluntary sector on preventative measures against such violence. We must back the vital services that provide support and advice to women and children."
