Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, recently hosted a virtual round table with local headteachers to discuss current issues within north Norwich schools.

Chloe invited all head teachers from within her constituency to join her for a virtual roundtable conference so she could hear honest and direct feedback from them about issues affecting local schools.

One of Chloe’s key priorities for Norwich North is to ensure the best start in life for Norwich children, and is keen to work closely with local schools to support them in their work.

Discussion during the roundtable was constructive and positive, focusing on issues that Chloe could help the schools address with the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson MP and Norfolk County Council; including increasing the flexibility of catch-up funding, COVID-19 testing in schools, and welfare support for those children and families who need it most.

Chloe commented: “I appreciated meeting with Norwich North headteachers for an honest and wide-ranging discussion of common issues affecting local schools. I do not underestimate how challenging the last few months have been but I do know how important it is for children to be back in school, not only for their education but for their development and wellbeing too.

“It is down to the sheer hard work of so many teachers and school staff that pupils have been able to learn in their classrooms together again. It has not been easy for parents nor schools, but it is great hear from headteachers the way staff and pupils have adapted and it’s important that we work together to get through this crisis and provide the best for local children in the years to come.”
