Chloe launches speeding consultation

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 02 February 2012 16:21

Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, has today formally launched a consultation on speeding in the Norwich North constituency.

Chloe has contacted Parish Councils, Primary Schools and Nurseries to ask for views on speeding hotspots around Norwich. She hopes to review the results before Christmas.

Chloe has also written to the Secretary of State for Transport about the Northern Distributor Road which, if built, would go far to reduce congestion in northern Norwich. According to a recent report by the Department for Transport, almost 3000 people were injured in road traffic accidents in Norfolk in 2008. And according to a Parliamentary Question recently asked by Chloe, the number of motor vehicles registered in the Norwich North constituency has risen by a quarter in the last ten years - up by nearly 12,000.

Chloe, who encourages constituents to write to her if they have major speeding issues to highlight in their area, comments:

"I get many letters about speeding issues across Norwich North. I will be pressing for action on the top spots in north Norwich. People do want to be safe in the streets, and with a steep rise in vehicles over ten years, without yet a major road around the north of the city to help relieve congestion, this is a serious issue."
