Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, has questioned Health Ministers on the support available to hospitals this winter.

Speaking in the chamber today Chloe asked:

“What support will be available to hospitals over the winter? Norfolk and Norwich University hospital declared a black alert last week.”

Health Minister Ben Gummer confirmed that preparations were being made on an unprecedented scale – including specific support for the N and N.

Responding to Chloe’s question, the Minister said:

“We are preparing for the winter on an unprecedented scale, having learnt from the experience of last winter. Specific support has already been provided for Norfolk and Norwich University hospital, and support will be provided consistently throughout the winter.”

The exchange follows a black alert declared at Norfolk and Norwich University last week.

Commenting on the issue Chloe said:

“It’s good to hear that lessons learnt last winter are being put into practice. Winter is a dangerous time for the most vulnerable in our society, so I’m encouraged to hear that specific support is being made available to us here in Norwich. I will continue to make sure Ministers are responding to developments at the N&N, while expecting good leadership locally from the Hospital Trust.”
