Exam Success: more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are now going to university

Following this week's exam results for AS and A Level students, it's great to see that more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are now going to university than for nearly ten years.

Young people locally have told me they want jobs, opportunities and a say in our city.  So I am committed to helping them get the education chances they want - as well as continuing to help young people get into work.

Growing up in our area, I want the best for Norwich children and I help lead a big project to do that.  I chair a special youth board that encourages young people to advise the "Norwich Opportunity Area" programme.  It has been shown that young people in Norwich could be held back compared to elsewhere in the country, and that's not right.

Of course, university isn’t the only route available to students who have completed their AS and A Levels.  Norwich has so much to offer, including a wide range of careers like financial services, science, retail, aviation/aerospace, manufacturing and lots more!
