Chloe welcomes Sajid Javid to Norwich

Yesterday I was delighted to welcome the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Sajid Javid to Norwich. He was here to mark the roll-out of the Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme, which the Chancellor announced in his budget last month.

It's a fantastic scheme designed to help local businesses upgrade to superfast broadband and it's funded by the Government. I have met so many wonderful local business owners and entrepreneurs who have no limits to their ambitions or goals, but they were frustrated at the lack of superfast broadband available to them.

This scheme can make a real difference. Getting a better connection can mean a better bottom-line by:
  • Increasing profits by offering better services to more satisfied customers
  • Improving customers’ experience with quicker, communication and faster file-sharing thanks to higher upload and download speeds, especially for large files
  • Reducing software and hardware costs by helping the switch to online data storage solutions
  • Enhancing the way businesses communicate and collaborate through online video conference and cloud-based information sharing
  • Future-proofing businesses with the latest technology to meet their customers’ needs

Norwich is a real hub of digital innovation and I was proud to be able to show the Secretary of State just a fraction of it yesterday at the NUA Digital Hub.

Norwich also has a thriving arts scene and it was great to be able to introduce Sajid Javid to the director of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, which is due to kick-off in May. It's a real celebration of the huge wealth of talent we have here in Norwich and across the East of England. Local theatres have seen real help through the Theatre Tax Credit, which gives a tax break to smaller, regional theatres to support their ambitions.
