Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, has today welcomed unemployment figures released which shows a drop in unemployment in the month of August.

The statistics show that unemployment in Norwich North has dropped to 805, which is 5 lower than this time last month; and 10 lower than this time last year. This figure of 805 represents a rate of 1.8% of the economically active population aged 16-64, this is ahead of the equivalent UK claimant rate, which is currently 2.5%.

Chloe has particularly welcomed the news that youth unemployment (those aged 18-24), in Norwich North has dropped to 5 lower than in the same period last year. This news comes ahead of the launch of Phase 3 of the Norwich For Jobs project on 27th September, which is seeking to once-again halve unemployment and disengagement for young people across all benefits, with a particular aim to engage every young person on Jobseekers Allowance and get them back into work.

Chloe comments: “These statistics show that in Norwich we are already on the right track to effectively tackle unemployment. We are ahead of the national trend, and we have a tried and tested method of engaging young people that actually works. I am very much looking forward to the next phase of the Norwich For Jobs project where we will prove once again that Norwich can lead the way in getting young people into work.”
