CHLOE SMITH: RAIL TASKFORCE CONTINUES ITS HARD WORK

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 04 July 2017 10:32

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, today chairs the latest meeting of the Great Eastern Mainline Taskforce, which regroups following the general election.

To date, the taskforce has achieved significant investment for the Norwich to London mainline, including £1.4bn for new trains which are being delivered from now in the new franchise. The taskforce's 2014 business case outlines how such improvements will bring thousands of new jobs to the region.

Chloe Smith and Mark Pendlington, head of the New Anglia LEP, co-chair today's meeting. They have invited new and returning MPs to join the taskforce, representing all the stations on the line through Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

Today's meeting, in Parliament, will hear progress updates from the Department for Transport, Network Rail, and Abellio Greater Anglia.

Chloe says: "I am proud to have won big investment for Norwich and the whole region, and the hard work continues. We will hold DfT, Abellio and Network Rail closely to account to deliver what passengers need, so that we see the gains for everyone in the local economy."
