Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North has welcomed figures out today show that more people are in work than ever before. In Norwich North the number of people claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 1,273– a 58% per cent drop – since 2010.
Employment has increased in Eastern Region with 3,162,698 people in work – an increase of 338,646 more people in work since 2010.
Chloe has welcomed the new figures, which show that unemployment is at a 40 year low and that the number of young people out of work has fallen by 140 people on average every day under the Conservatives. The employment rate in the UK currently stands at 75.6%, which is the highest since comparable records began in 1971
Chloe commented: “I’m delighted to see these figures, under the Conservatives a record number of people are now in work as unemployment continues to fall to record lows. And with wages rising faster than prices, paypackets can go further.
“That means more people have the security of a job and are able to provide for their families. We want to do more to deliver more well-paid jobs, which is why we have launched our modern Industrial Strategy. Labour would put all this at risk.
“As Founder and Chair of the Norwich For Jobs Project, I know from speaking to people first-hand how life changing finding employment can be.”
