Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, has backed NHS Norfolk's plans to provide a new health facility in the city.

NHS Norfolk is working with Norfolk County Council to create a Sure Start Children's Centre with a range of health services such as community midwifery and health visiting.

Chloe, a long-standing local campaigner, campaigned strongly against the closure of the original Walk-In Centre and, as part of her campaign against its closure, took a 5,600 strong petition all the way to the Department for Health in London.

She has welcomed the news that there is to be a new future for the health centre at Dussindale and is pleased that local residents will be given the chance to express their views about what that future will be.

Chloe Smith said: "I am delighted that we will have a fresh health facility here in Dussindale.

"I think it is important to support Sure Start and to further improve what is offered by including a focus on health visitors."

Miss Smith visited during a public exhibition asking members of the public what additional health facilities they want to see provided there. The venue is a former walk-in health centre which was closed earlier this year. It was replaced by a new GP-led health centre in the centre of Norwich.

Sheila Childerhouse, chair of NHS Norfolk, said: "Feedback from the exhibition has been generally positive. Some visitors have taken away our suggestion cards to fill in with their preferences for services to be provided. We will be collecting those suggestions over the next few weeks."
