This week saw the 100 year anniversary of women being allowed to stand for Parliament; and it is an exciting moment to celebrate. It means a huge amount to me, because 100 years ago, I couldn’t have stood for Parliament, or do what I do.
I’m incredibly proud to serve my community and my country, and that should not at all depend on being a woman, or a man. But there is still a lot more to do; there aren’t enough women in politics today, so I would say to women and girls who might be reading this: “It is your voice, it is your vote. You could do it too! You can get in touch with me, or your own MP if you think you could do public service- give it a go!”
